Weekend Trip to Mendocino

This last weekend, my gal and I took a trip to Mendocino for a quick little getaway. We took the 1 on the way up and stopped at a couple of our favorite spots. First was Muir Beach Overlook. It’s famous for being the spot that I proposed.

Afterwards, we drove to Tomales Bay for oysters at The Marshall Store. This place rocks.

Back to the road, a few more hours up the 1 alongside the coast. The view gets a bit monotonous. There are spots called “view points” to capture the boring scenery:

We arrived at our B&B, the Elk Cove Inn. They have acres of coastline property, and about 12 rooms. Ours had an amazing view of the ocean and a huge rock we named Timmy. Why Timmy? I don’t know.

Each morning they serve an awesome breakfast, and every afternoon from 4-6 they host an honor bar happy hour. The only thing that beats drinking a cup of coffee while looking out at the ocean is sipping on a cocktail while looking out at the ocean.

We also got to do some wine tasting in nearby Anderson Valley. We’ve been to Napa and Sonoma before, but never to the Mendocino wine region. It was beautiful, and far less busy than Napa and Sonoma.

Though it was just a 2 day trip, it felt great to get away and explore some parts of Northern California that we hadn’t been to before. Now on to planning the next trip…

  1. Great blog. It was almost like being there, which is as close as a mother-in-law should get to tagging along on a newlywed couple’s get away weekend.
